Stephen J. Williams

The Roanoke area has been my lifelong home. There I grew up in the retail hardware trade - and have never quite gotten the "nuts and bolts" out of my blood. Following law school, my wife and I (whom I met in first grade) chose to return to our roots, as a desirable spot to raise a family. And that we did.

Although my early aspirations tended toward the courtroom, the fork in the road led to trust work with northern Indiana's most prominent bank. The position of counsel for the trust department permitted me to develop in-depth knowledge and experience in trust and estate administration, estate and personal planning, as well as related areas of taxation and charities. When I later opted for private practice, I chose to confine my efforts to these fields; that choice has yielded much satisfaction.

I am a Fellow of the American College of Trust & Estate Counsel, and a Certified Trust & Estate Specialist (Indiana Trust & Estate Specialty Certification Board). I have been listed in BEST LAWYERS OF AMERICA in the fields of estate planning and taxation, beginning in 1987 and during each succeeding year. I have also been designated an Indiana Super Lawyer. I am a member of the bar of the Indiana Supreme Court, U.S. Tax Court and U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. I received my preparatory and legal education at Indiana University (Bloomington) where I served as an editor of the Indiana Law Journal and was awarded the Order of the Coif.
